So you’ve decided to stay in with your love interest for a romantic movie date? Though a movie date at home is not ideal for a first date, it is great for a second or third date and beyond. That way you already know the person, you’re comfortable with him/her, and this gives you the opportunity to just relax and do something enjoyable in each other’s company.

A movie date isn’t the type of date that you should just wing. The perfect movie date at home certainly involves some preparation. Choosing the right movie that is stimulating and fun is key. Whether the movie is horror or romantic, it should be something that you will both enjoy. If you choose a horror flick and she hates horror, then obviously she won’t be enjoying the date as much, so finding out in advance what she likes/dislikes is important. If you’d rather it be more spontaneous, then you can set aside a few movies that she can select from. I recommend watching a movie that you both haven’t seen before so it will be a new and exciting to both of you.

A movie date also requires some additional props, such as food and drinks. Remember that a movie doesn’t always require popcorn, so be creative and venture outside the boring popcorn and soda tradition! If you’re hosting the movie date at your home, you may want to prepare a nice dinner or lunch before the movie. If you’re not the greatest chef in town, then ordering out is the next best thing. Another option is having both of you bring one dish each, or your date can bring an appetizer and you can be in charge of the entree. I also like the idea of making a small, quick meal together which adds to the romantic ambiance. And what’s better than getting to know a person through team work anyway?

Another important thing that you shouldn’t disregard is the cleanliness of your house. You should clean up a bit if you’re hosting the movie date at your place. Don’t leave your dirty socks lying around the house and unwashed dishes in the sink. You want to appear clean, even if that’s not your thing. You can also light a couple of scented candles to freshen up your home and you can leave them lit for more of a romantic or cozy setting.

Okay, so let’s get down to business now. Movie dates at home tend to fall under the intimate/romantic category so be prepared. If you and your date are not intimate as yet, then this setting may be perfect for creating some steam. However, it doesn’t have to be that way if your intention is just having an innocent date at home watching a movie, and nothing more. Knowing your relationship with him/her and how far along it is will help you determine whether or not you the two of you are ready to take it a step further. You should both be on the same page!

Here are a few of my movie recommendations for your date. I’ve listed them by genre. I’ve also added a link to Amazon so you can purchase at your convenience if you’d like. Good luck with your movie date!
